Education Experience
As a Visiting Clinical Assistant Professor at Indiana University, I managed course schedules and students in the English Education program area, collaborated on grant writing, and played a key role in researching and transitioning a face-to-face program to an online format. As an English Language Learner Coordinator at Center Grove High School, I designed and implemented a successful program resulting in an 86% increase in test scores. I managed teacher aide staff, petitioned for changes in graduation requirements for English learners, and provided professional development to school and district staff. My educational journey includes a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana University, focusing on Instruction Systems Technology and Literacy, Culture, and Language Education. My dissertation, "Immigration Stories in the English Learner Classroom," reflects my commitment to revealing funds of knowledge and creating brave spaces in literacy education. |
Spring 2024 Course Survey:
Professor McNeill was kind and understanding to all students. Her classes were well–organized and I felt like I learned a little after every class. Her online assignments taught be a lot about how to engage students when a teacher isn't there to keep them on track. Professor McNeill challenged us to step out of our comfort zones, and she was always available to explain and patient when we didn't understand. Professor McNeill went out of her way to fill in some gaps we had missed from other classes, which wasn't even her job. I learned a lot from this class and from Professor McNeill. I loved this course, Erin is so knowledgable and helpful when it comes to learning about how to be an effective educator. She answered all questions about lesson planning and was patient with our class. I could tell she is passionate about what she does and genuinely wants to help future educators grow. I especially appreciated the emphasis she put on ensuring all lesson plans include all possible accommodations because my other professors had not done this. Erin did great, in comparison to our other block professor she was outstanding. The assignments were actually helpful I felt like and she was willing to explain things outside of her course material which was very helpful. Erin is very positive in the way that she speaks to students. She took charge and taught our class how to fill out a lesson plan when we were not informed by the professors that should have done so. She provided us with several different applicable teaching strategies throughout her course. The work was very easy to follow and graded very fairly. Erin McNeill is a great example of what an amazing professor looks like. I really liked that Erin prioritized and was real with us about how she knows we skim most of the time and that's okay. She showed us how to effectively find useful information. I really appreciated how Professor McNeill used her professional experience to guide the class and to give us advice. I am truly grateful to Professor McNeill for stopping her own class to explain to us how to fill out a lesson plan template because our other professors would not. She was always prepared for class and made us feel valued as people and students. Everything. She dedicates her time to answering questions our other teachers' should have been able to answer. She goes through assignments in such detail and provides helpful models and examples. She is kind and accommodating. She also recognizes that we have lives outside of class and that she does as well, and she prioritizes in class meetings to make sure we can get all of our questions answered. |
